Here's another angle. I'm sorry but that's all I can provide. I can't see anything beyond what you see in the picture. Also, the leak seems to have nullified, or at least minimized to a point where I don't see an actual drip, just a few drops of ATF on the thang (what do you call it again?). Also, can I use VAGCOM to get some reading off of the tranny that tells me absolutely anything about the gears? 004 is temperature reading...

Still can't tell (need a pic from farther back not a close up) If you can't put the car on a jack I won't be able to help. If not good luck and hope it doesn't keep leaking (even though it probably will)

not sure about your leak but there was literally no change at all with the shifting?

how is your transmission mount looking?

No change, although the shifting wasn't bad to start with. It was only that the revs were jumping very briefly by about 200rpms as I moved into 4th and 5th. No jerks or anything like that whatsoever. Most people won't even notice as the shifts are smooth nonetheless. It's almost like pulling the clutch in, of a manual gearbox while still keeping a feather throttle. After the fluid change, I didn't notice any improvement in shifting, but the leak did became apparent and it's pissing me off.

Where's the tranny mount and does it relate to the leak?

Alright well... Assuming that I have a leak in the input shaft (shaft seal), how much work are we looking at? It it DIY-able? If not, can anyone give a ballpark number at the stealerships?

assuming it is the input seal, its not that big of a job, I just finished doing one today on my 99 b5. Almost immediately after I did a tranny flush on my quattro that seal started to leak, at first it was just a little dribbling out, and then continued to get worse, the center diff case takes about .85 litres of gear lube and mine was down to .3. I ended up just pulling the drain plug and putting amsoil gear lube in it. Hopefully I didn't do too much damage, but anyways, there is a writeup on doing the one for the A8, the one difference is that ours doesn't have nearly the amount of exhaust to remove (in this case a big help). http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articl...placement.html

Rest is the same, If I had to estimate, i'd say around $4-500 at a shop to get this done.

^ interesting. Doesn't seem too bad. Can you tell from my pictures posted earlier that it's where the leak is coming from? It dribbles down from this thing next to the trans oil pan.
