Default Oil Temp gauge kinda working, but not really

OK, so my oil temp guage, or is it actually a coolant temp guage, or wutever (the one next to the fuel guage) is not really working. It works sometimes but other times it just stays in the cool position no matter how long I drive. Does anyone know wut's the problem or how I can find out?

THanks

probably a bad coolant temp sensor. if you have the 2.8 engine, it's behind the head on the passenger side. you gotta take off the flexible intake hose to reach it. the top could be green or blue. as for the 1.8, i'm not sure but i heard it's behind the engine

oh boy, you might not wanna do this if you dont know what the head of the engine is. go to a stealer ship.

and its easy on the 1.8 also right behind the vavle cover.
