Potential MPG boosting trick
one tank of gas is really not much research to go off of though, so i suggest that if you are still kind of nervous on this to wait for a couple more weeks, and i will have more material to report.
I've been doing this for almost a decade... in my RX-7s. But that's because the rotary injects oil into the chambers on purpose for lubrication and then gets burned off. Many owners run 2 stroke non-synthetic in with the gasoline instead since the oil metering pump and lines are known to fail.
Mileage bump, zero and that's on hundreds if not thousands of owners using this method for decades. Dangerous? Not at all. A rotary uses the same denso top feed injectors many other use non-rotary vehicles use. Besides, 2 stroke is designed to lubricate then burn off. I wouldn't even say I've had to change the fuel filter more frequently, but they are heavy duty on RX-7s while the same can't be said for Audi oem units.
It may be different with a piston engine as it could provide extra lubication without using coated or aftermarket pistons, as I understand most piston engines don't deliberately inject oil into the combustion chamber for lubrication.
Either way, it's safe to try it out.

OK, so I added some oil with my last fillup a week ago to our 07 Tahoe. If anything can use a mileage bump, it's that. Then I left for a week on business to Vegas before ever driving. This morning was my first drive.
1. Startup was no quicker or slower, but it's always fired up in 2-3 revs, so there's not a lot of improvement to be had there anyway.
2. Instant acceleration from a dead stop. Before there was a slight pause but I noticed right away the truck reacts to the pedal much better.
3. Smoother engine load at highway speeds. Didn't feel like I was doing 70, I had to look at the odo.
Less than half the tank is gone, so it will be a while before I can report any gains. Last three tanks gave me 16.24, 15.20, and 14.63 mpg, so over the next month I should have at least another three fuel-ups to compare.

I actually have been noticing a SIGNIFICANTLY smoother ride overall as well. Just noticed it last night as I was driving home from work, I just noticed how smooth the engine was, it was like it was happier to be alive. The crazy part is that it never seemed to drive rough before, but I just noticed how much smoother it has been driving since I tried this. Fuel economy still seems about the same after this second tank. As for my rough idle, it has smoothed out a little more.
So to paraphrase:
car drives and idles smoother so far, but no noticed gains in fuel econ.
no negative affects to the engine as of this point (have driven a little over 550 miles since I began this project).

Last week I changed oil and filter in my B5 - put in Total Rubia TIR 7400 oil (a diesel oil in my petrol engine)and added 3% powerup. Why I used the particular Total oil is due to it being SD rated and its high film strength - the highest film strength so far that someone i know has tested - that is how well the film strength will keep a film between 2 friction surfaces. Im happy to say that ive noticed the engine runs smoother and it certainly is more perkier taking off from a standing start. So what im trying to get across is.....you want economy - begin with lubrication of the engine as well as adding the upper cylinder lubrication as well, they both help imho.
Since the oil change I have noticed that it takes longer than previously for the oil temp guage to reach normal operating temp from cold, to my mind that is suggesting less friction.

Hello all, I just purchased an 01 auto 2.7T quattro with 111k for a decent price, but I've noticed on the high way that it RANDOMLY loses power and starts to decelerate as if it wasn't getting enough fuel to the engine (though tank is full with premium) then I give it more gas to the pedal and it slowly but surely goes back to normal acceleration (with little if any hesitation). I got a mechanic to look at it and he said it was the fuel filter so he replaced my fuel filter with a new $20 on, but the problem still exists, like I said it seems random because after it happens a couple of times on the highway then usually cruises normally...Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated...and if you are or know a good (cheap) mechanic in Charlotte, NC please let me know...336-508-9979
