Rear Caliper problems
Hi there. I have an Audi A4 b5 1.9tdi avant Quattro with a headache of a rear Caliper.. it is burning disks and pads yet the Caliper screws back no problem, slider pins are working and handbrake cables are working yet when the car is driving the Caliper is sticking. And I don’t want to pay £70 for a new one if it isn’t the problem. Also the cars abs pump is making noise when braking and I can feel it pumping in the brake pedal., the opposite Caliper on the passenger side is kind of stiff when screwing it back but works fine when driving and doesn’t stick at all... any ideas out there?
The pads are hanging up. Check caliper carrier position and mounting hardware. Make sure all is correct. Once you believe all is well, try spinning the rotor by hand and see if it sticks. If it does, back the piston out a little bit so it stops grabbing. Spin it again. If it spins fine, start the car and press the brake pedal until the piston is back where it should be, then try spinning the rotor again. If it hangs again, I'd try replacing the pads (and maybe rotors) on both sides before I invest a bunch of money into anything else.
Obviously you need to check your brake fluid level as well. Bleeding both calipers wouldn't hurt either.

I would also check the Caliper Bolts and the boots (make sure they are not torn) and the bolts are in good condition. They can be lubed also.
I would also check the boot that is around caliper piston to make sure it is not torn. If torn debris can get into there or the piston could rust. If the boot is torn but the piston is okay, it is it can be rebuilt (at least the fronts can) so I am assuming the rears can too thought I have not checked... rather than a new caliper.

Thanks. All rotors and pads have already been changed.. by any chance would the Caliper carrier be bent slightly or something? Btw I haven’t checked the car yet since I’ve read your replies as I have been busy..hopefully I’ll get time soon. I have noticed the pads aren’t bedding into the rotor properly..there using the outside of the rotor and leaving 3/4 of an inch all rusty...
That sounds like what happened to me. One of my caliper carrier bolts backed out (somehow went completely missing) and the entire assembly came off of the rotor by about 25%. I caught it the same way you just described. I noticed the uneven wear and when I checked it out, that's exactly what it was.
