Default Rear Wheel Bearing Change Without Machine Press - Possible?

I have to change my drivers' side rear wheel bearing. I'm curious if there's a way to do it without a machine press. If i could use a hand operated one that'd be a hell of a lot easier. Just curious.

Thanks in advance,

Joe

i believe you need a 3 ton bearing to get it in easily. by hand operated you mean a jack setup right? make sure you press the right spot

i'm going to check tomorrow if i can use the machine shop here at school (a bit dicey since i'm an architect and it's in the engineers' territory). But i think they've got a hydraulic press that'd save me a lotta hassle. Although in the end if all a shop has to do is press the bearing in it's probably not going to cost me that much and would be a better use of my time.

i did mine with a hydraulic press... hand operated.. but im fwd and my rear bearings are a 2piece so idk if u have quattro then it should be a 1 piece... but if it is a 2 piece then as long as u get the race pressed in right then u shouldnt have a problem

I used a porta-power one time. I would have driven it down to a shop if I had a second car at the time. I wouldn't recommend it. It worked just wasn't pretty.

The online DIY uses a HubShark press that doesn't require removing the spindle from the car. If you have access to one of those it can be done.

yes it is quattro. I'm just going to pull the spindle and bring it to a shop and have them press it for me, the guys here are good and don't break your leg so i'll be fine.
