Replacing 97 A4 engine
I have an 1997 Audi A4. Recently, the engine died on me. The engine was 1.8T non-quattro. I would like to replace the engine. What other years of A4 .can I use to replace the engine? Also are there any non-Audi engines I can use to swap out wtih (for example, like jettas)?

look to buy a 96 a4 for example thats been severely damaged in the rear end or side, pull the engine out put it into yours then salvage every other usable part.
my friend had done just that. He cooked his engine because of a coolant leak on a hot day so he found the same car at an auto auction that was a write-off. It had only 125,000km. He had his mechanic do the engine transplant while he stripped the car for other parts.
Best of lick with that, honestly, unless you find an engine that is practically being given away or you have local guys willing to do it on the side (a few of us here on AF do that). There's an engine code stamped at the top front of your engine. You need to find an engine with the same code and out of a car with the same transmission.
