I think the "restrictions" you may have heard about involves the safety of the motor with the car its in, kinda like CCA4 was getting at. To my knowledge, certain engines put out too much power for what a certain chassis was designed to handle and that's why there may or may not be restrictions. I've never heard a definite answer as to if there really are restrictions or not, but if there are, that'd probably be why.

That's what I meant by the boat comment. I've never heard of such a rule with cars

I'll do some more digging in the vehicle code tomorrow and try to get you a real answer, if I remember correctly (at least in CA), the motor being swapped in must be the same year as the car or newer, and pass emissions.

There are several of us from down here. We usually have a meet at least once a month but we've been pretty busy lately.

When you said you heard about cars being crushed, that's mostly because they have stolen engines and illegal modifications to it. These cars are usually impounded during street races.

ahh okays, I'd like an ivite to a get together if you all happen to have one =D

and well yea, i asked a sheriff around my house today and he said the same lol
