swap A4 5 speed tranny w/ S4 6 speed
ORIGINAL: 01afour
is there any advantage to doing a 6 spd swap? and no its not possible to simply switch it out but its possible. if your gunna do an engine and tranny swap you would probably save a hugh headache and some money if u just buy an s4.

So if I'm reading some of these posts correctly, it is possible to swap a B6 6-speed from a 1.8 or 2.0T into a B5 without having to do any major modifications?
Did they put a 6-speed behind a 1.8 in the B6 cars?

direct swap. will need to use the tranny mount off the passenger side of your 5 spd and the clutch/flywheel from your current engine. as far as the 2.7t 6 spd swap its possible. must change the axles, rear diff, k member as well as engine and trans of course. also need to rewire abs and the cluster/ecu

I was under the impression that you could keep the stock axles. Talked to a VW/Audi/Porsche tech that said you don't have to swap the motor out since the 6 speed tranny actually has 2 sets of holes in it and will bolt to a 1.8t. I might visit a wrecking yard and match them up to check it out.
