As the title says when I brought the car to the audi dealer to have the TB adapted (the car had sat for a year with a dead battery) the tech said (and i saw the computer with my own eyes) that the throttle refused to adapt. I've read numerous times that you can disconnect the battery for a little bit, reconnect, then turn the key to the ON position but not start the car for a few minutes.. then start the car and dont touch the gas.. etc.. that whole deal.. and in all of those instructions it says you will hear a whirring sound and clicking or even ANYTHING.. well.. i've taken the plastic cover off the side of the TB and had someone else turn the key to the on position and nothing moves.. nothing makes a sound.. nothing at all happens the entire time.

the dealer said i need to replace the entire throttle body .. any way around that?

 

if the motor is actually dead then no there is no way around it. do you have a throttle cable attached to it or is the car drive by wire? look around in the classifieds for someone parting out their car and get a replacement for cheap.

no movement/whirring/clicking is a definite sign of motor failure though.. wouldnt be a bad chip of any sort or possibly a relay or anything?

 

if the car sat for a year, look around for any wires mice or something may have chewed thru, you never know. if the dealer cant even get the TB to adapt and its not a broken wire, then that means the electronics inside the TB are dead and you have to replace the whole thing.

on drive-by-cable cars you would only hear a high pitched humming sound. on drive-by-wire cars there is an actual motor that drives the TB you would hear moving around.
