tie rod ends

Default tie rod ends

doing my outer tie rod ends on my fwd 99 audi 1.8t, got the joint and everything disassembled having a hell of a time breaking the outer tie rod end loose any special tricks? i heard i need a special "vag1923" tool or somethin like that but i don't have that tool and trying to avoid that ive used breaker bars and everything any ideas? thanks

Mine were so stuck that I ended up getting a pair of full tie rods with the inner joint, so if worst come to worst you have that option.

you might as well do inner tie rods too. the whole assembly for both sides is only like $40 through fcp, although im not sold on the quality. if the are that seized, youll need to remove the inner tie rod anyways. youll have a hell of a time getting it out. my buddy did it with a vise grip. i have no idea how. i used a 1 1/2 inch crow foot. took a while but it worked eventually

I used an big adjustable wrench for the inner, it was the most painless tie rod job I've done apart from cutting the old ones in half to extract the boot.
