Default V6 clutch and 1.8t clutch. Are they interchangeable?

I am still looking for a clutch setup and noticed today that it seems that the V6 uses 240mm clutch setup and the 1.8t uses 228mm clutch setup. I am wondering if one can be swapped for the other. The 240mm will give you a lil more clamping area and was designed for more torque. I am wondering if there will be issues with starter ring and what not?

Is this something that has been tried before?

Thanks

As far as I know, the 2.8 and 1.8t do not use the same clutch kit or the same flywheel, so the answer would be......

pretty sure Chris mentioned this in the other thread that the S4 clutch upgrade kit for the 1.8t uses a 240mm disk, which is what he has on his car.

Yeah I know the S4 clutch does but so does the V6 as in the NA 2.8. I am trying to figure out the difference between the 2. You don't see upgrades for the 2.8 though unless you are considering the eBay stuff. I looked at the Southbend clutch setups and was a bit disappointed when I saw they used modified sach pressure plates. Appearently the Sach setups are pretty good since they are using them.

I guess the long way around this is I am wondering if the V6 flywheel will work with the 1.8 trans and starter postion. What all other differences are there? I searched but found little info except flywheel size and clutch size.

the starter ring isnt what you have to worry about. a4 2.8/s4 2.7 flywheels use 8 bolt while a4 1.8t use 6 bolt flywheels. if you buy and aftermarket 6 bolt 240mm flywheel, feel free to use any aftermarket 240mm s4 clutch. keep in mind though some flywheels (like the ecs ra4 flywheel) will not allow the use of some aftermarket clutches because of the bolt head height. some have even had to grind down arp shallow flywheel bolt heads just to get a certain clutch to fit. but you are certainly free to use s4/rs4 clutches with 6 bolt 240mm flywheels, as well as certain aftermarket disks/pressure plate combos. this issue arises with the clutchmasters stage 3/4 clutches. stage 3 will fit, stage 4 wont. there are caveats to this, and im sure his royal clutchnass, mr. mike hood, will chime in soon to clear it up
