Default wheel bearings?

I've got a loud humming noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. It starts at about 40mph and gets louder as the speed goes up. Because the noise doesn't start until such a high speed, I can't really swerve too much to determine if it's a left or right bearing issue. There is no noticeable noise at lower speeds. With a bearing issue, will there always be noise at low speeds? It doesn't seem to matter what gear it's in, or if the clutch is pushed down. I've heard that the tires might cause this too, although there was no noise when I first bought the car a few months ago. Any idea what else might cause this?

Yeah that's definitely a wheel bearing. I would go ahead and just replace both rear bearings; mine went out within a couple weeks of each other as well. Might as well get them both done at once!
