Default Wheelspeed sensor.

So, I'm sure a lot of you read about my idiocy and breaking my upright/wheelspeed sensor. The sensor would read 1 KPH all the time in vagcom, so - I went to the junkyard, got another sensor...issue is, this sensor had a cut in the wire, so I spliced it and taped it.

Still reading 1 KPH no matter what. My question is : Can these wires be spliced? Or is it a huge no no, and two : Is it at all possible that I screwed up the axle some how? Since isn't that how it reads wheelspeed? some magnetic marking on the area near the spline?

*edit* The new sensor, of course could be bad too. That would just be bizaar luck, though.

Splicing should be fine, the sensor is based on pulse and voltage variation I think and not resistance. It isnt likely the axle got messed up, you would probably have a reading that varied, but that was still different from the other wheels if that were the case. You might try pushing it in a little further, that was my problem (depending on what year, they had screws to hold them later I think).

Turns out my tone ring broke during removal and stayed stuck to the upright, and broke out during hammering of the bearing. Oops

how did you break your tone ring during a sensor swap? you do know that the tone ring is inside the hub right?

Wasn't just a sensor swap, I swapped the entire spindle/upright. Mine was warped and was chewing through bearings like noones business.

Hey guys, went to the junkyard and grabbed a new tone ring. All is well, abs in full function even with my double splicing. I do need to get a proper wheelspeed sensor, as im sure the splice will eventually wear. Or re-splice it the proper way, depends on if i'm lazy or not
