Default 75,000 Service - How much should this cost??

My 2004 A4 is 8 1/2 years old and has about 71,000 miles. My passenger window regulator is busted so I took it into the dealer for repair, and inquired about having the 75K service done at the same time. The guy at the dealer said that it would involve replacing the timing belt, spark plugs, having the transmission services, and other items for this "major" service.

I confess that I'm not well versed in cars, but I was a bit shocked when he said this service would cost upwards of $3,600!?! I called a different Audi dealer and asked what the cost for the same service would be, and they actually said it would be around $3,800! They both said that the timing belt part of the service is what is the most costly, at about $2,600...

I called an independent Audi service in the area and they said the same services would run around $1,200. I know that dealers have a reputation for being more expensive, but 3X just seems crazy. Am I missing something here? Anyone have any advice?

Thanks!!

Go with the German auto specialist. I went with pure motorsport and they did a great job. I did the timing belt water serpentine belt etc for $800 and the transmission for 250 and I through In oil change and a differential oil change for 150 because I was too lazy. Not bad price for all the work.

I had this service done at the local dealership and it cost me about 3k without a busted window regulator.

the dealers are all over the place for the price of the timing belt service.

i had mine done at Gault Audi in (at the time) Binghamton- i think it came to ~1100 for timing belt, water pump, and a few belts and tensioners.

sounds like you should look at you local independent shops. the 3k ball park is way too much.
