Buying a 2004 A4 USP - Tip/CVT
I am looking at buying a 2004 A4 Ultrasport, however it is the one with CVT (continuously variable transmission) without quattro. I do not have any experience whatsoever with these transmissions. Anybody have any input? Heres some info on the car itself
-81k miles
-Always had full synthetic and 93 octane.
-Full maintenance records minus the timing belt/water pump, which I will be doing myself when it warms up here in TN.
-Asking 10.5k for the car, which is really cheap in my opinion
-Clean carfax and title
Here are a few pics of the car for clicks, any input on the CVT is greatly appreciated, ive searched everywhere and cant find any decent info on them.

I have no personal experience with the CVT, but every time someone has brought up the subject in the last few months I've been hanging around here, the regulars chimed in about it. Apparently it's really nice to drive, but the failure rate is very high, Audi wants something like $8K for a new trans, and repair is not usually an option. The usual advice given is to run like hell. Kinda too bad, cause that USP sure is a pretty car. If you find a Quattro version of it, that wouldn't be CVT, or of course a manual would be safe as well.
10.5 is an awful lot to pay for a body kit on a car that stands an excellent chance of dying on you in the next year.
Based on the rash of CVT problems between 80-100k I'd say run down't walk from this car.
Sure if pretty though.
