Default Clear coat chipping away!!

My clear coat is chipping away in my 2003 A4. Have a 12in by 6in spot on the hood where its completely gone plus smaller chips on other areas of the hood. Found a small one under the right side mirror. It has the original paint. It showed up after a 2 hour drive under heavy rain here in Puerto Rico. Have you guys heard of this happening to factory paint? Thanks for your input.

Because it belonged to my cousin. He is my neighbor and he had the car since new until I bought it from him 2 years ago.
It DOES rain very frequently but no acid rain problems. I've had two other cars with more the 120,000 miles on them and have never seen this. I'm puzzled.

Yeah it's happening to me too around the door handles (3 of them). Took it to a body shop and they told me that my car has been repainted since it was purchased. The guy said that it has been in "some sort of incident" because the entire thing has been repainted and you don't usually do that unless something has happened to the car. My mechanic tols me that there isn;t anything wrong with the car and it doesn't seem to have been in an accident from what he can see. HMMMMMMMMM. Oh well, I must be very lucky because the car runs like a top and there isn't a thing wrong with it

All in all, it's going to cost around 2600 to get it all repainted if I want it done right..... i can wait
