Default CV boot/axle replacement

I have an 2004 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro. I have a little over 96,000 miles on it. I've noticed at highway speeds, my car vibrates considerably and its coming from my two front tires (more so on the passenger-side). I brought it in to my local mechanic and he mentioned that my front axle and CV boot needed replacement. He says it will cost roughly $1100, which includes parts/labor/tax.

Is that how much it costs or am I getting completely ripped off? Also, is this unusual that this has happened with the amount of miles I have on it?

Thanks in advance...

My car has 78k on the clock and I've already had one cv boot and axle replaced so it's not uncommon.

$1100 sounds a little steep, is that the dealership?

I don't have my invoice from the previous job otherwise I would post it on here.

Your getting ripped off...I payed only about 150 for a aftermarket axle and my mechanic charges 80 per axle

No, it's not the dealership, although the estimate does resemble dealership prices. Its a local mechanic that specializes in Audi/VW.

I figured that sounded a bit pricey. I'm going to another mechanic near my house to get another estimate. Thanks for the replies.

Default Is it my cvboot/axles or my snub and motor mounts??

The reason I brought my car to the mechanic in the first place was because my car was vibrating noticeably both when I'm idle (i.e. stopped at a traffic light) and when I accelerate at highway speeds. After searching through these forums, it sounds like it can be my snub mount and/or motor mounts. Either that or my coilpacks, which I doubt because I replaced all four of them a few months ago.

Although my mechanic did show me my inner cv boots, which were cracked and leaking fluid, is this the real cause of my car's vibration, which seems to be what my mechanic is indicating? Or is it my snub and motor mounts?

I did not end up getting my front CV boot/axles replaced just yet...I probably should...but should I have my snub/motor mounts replaced first to see if that is what is causing my car to vibrate. Although my car may have multiple things wrong with it, the vibration issue is what is most prominent at this point and I really want to get this fixed.

SunnyShaida, does your mechanic happen to be in the North Jersey area??

Thanks!

Yes , get them changed. I will stop the vibration. Buy Aftermarket axels ($150 + 1.5 labor)

Sorry im in SoCal Dude I had the exact same problem for the longest time thought it was my mounts but it ended up bein my axle it had a ripped cv boot

I reccommend you do the axle first, it's alot cheaper, and your mounts might not be bad
