but my engine isn't sludged.. at least I don't think. I dropped pan and pulled valve covers and its clean as a whistle. Had a 4 stage chemical clean from the dealer along with pickup tube cleaned up. but your saying it could still be sludge? that seems very surprising to me.

WEll the fact that you get an intermintant light tells me something is causing the pressure to drop. and just to be clear did u actually watch the dealership drop the pan and clean out everything. Alot of times the tech's will do a half **** jobto make sure you come back for more spending. Just saying. . . .Oh im wondering what weight oil did you use? Also try turn on the car and pull the dipstick out. If it sounds fairly loud i would lean towards your breather system not holding vaccume to the crankcase.

The dealer is a long time close family friend so I trust his work. Have gone to him many years for the family VW's. Im not positive on the weight, I have the cans at home that I can check tonight. Also tonight I will try the dip stick test. What weight is recommended? Ive heard a few people suggest a heavier weight than the dealer recommends?

also to clarify that the pressure guage has been hooked up and getting good reading while the oil pressure light comes on. Hoping to verify this with aftermarket guage constantly hooked up.

When the dealer changed my oil I ordered 2 extra quarts and without asking
They gave me 5w40 so I can assume that's what they put in.

Also an update on the gauge, the test port above the filter rounded off (even with extreme care in trying to remove it!) so I've ordered another fitting and it won't be on til this weekend. Light only has come on a few times. Only when hot and at about 1500-1600 rpm then goes right away. Any more ideas while I'm waiting for this fitting?

Yes, anything above or below 1500/1600 rpm the light will go right away. It's only at that rpm and only when the oil is hot. As for my cornering theory that's been disproven last weekend
