I just did the chip at www.o34motorsport.com and definitely enjoy the power increase. So my short answer, do the chip...

I have had 4 different Audis, with 4 different engines, and I'll say this for the 3.0.

The power is very subtle, but it "is" there - especially if you do a chip. I'll be doing the exhaust later, and a CAI when it arrives. Suffice to say, I like this car - it may not have the head-whipping action of the turbo, but it's very smooth.

I like the car, can't beat the exterior of the ultra sport. I'll take some pics and put up after the exhaust.
Here's a great youtube vid of a magnaflow exhaust with the part # of the mufflers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeK75F6tELw very nice!

DO THE CHIP!

at least not to me.
The Neuspeed exhaust sounds better by its self.
called my brother today, he's a tech himself, he said the same thing, too much money for little satisfaction.

btw, when someone is asking a question, no need to be rude, state it politely and people would be more willing to listen.
thanks for being nice about me being new to mods auditech79
I dont know everything and am doing my best to learn, give me a break.
much appreciated.

quadehxaust, if you do chip your car, be sure to keep me posted on how well it works.

another question (and all I ask is that you answer nicely)
cam shafts.... saw a few that would work with the A4's but it didn't specify which one.... could it possibly work for my 3.0?
The only manufacture that makes a exhaust for the 3.0L that i know of it Remus, but that only eliminates the two rear mufflers and leaves in the stock resonators which doesn't really help much with the sound. The remus mufflers by themselves does sound good though. If you want to do a magnaflow, borla, flowmaster, Neuspeed, etc. You would have to just buy the mufflers and have an exhaust shop weld in piping for you. Its actually a lot cheaper to do it this way because its just galvanized steel which is much cheaper than stainless steel. Stainless steel is infused with chromium.
I have a neuspeed exhaust for my 1.8T and it is a sweet exhaust, but for your circumstance i would buy a set of magnaflow mufflers, have them make piping from the band clamps all the way back.

P.S. You won't see more than a 2-3 horsepower gain when changing the exhaust on a 3.0L. The reason turbo cars get a larger increase is because of the turbo itself, if it flows better than you can get more power out of it.

you could lose power with a turbo if you eliminate the back pressure which helps it to spool... too big of piping...

thanks so much for all your help guys, I will keep all this in mind when I start my mods, which are probably a few months off right now, I've learned many new things that I would have never known just talking to my brother, who thinks he knows it all.
and I did feel you were being a little rude in a few of your replies, hence why I stated that, I'm not trying to be a b***h, it's in the past.

I will strongly considering doing a chip, Quad seems to like his =]
turbo is out, I don't have that kind of money to throw at my car, for little satisfaction.

Quad, keep me posted on any other mods you do, I'm sure you'll do them before I get the money to, the feedback would help since we pretty much have the same car =]

Hey guy,

Certainly will keep you posted. I did the exhaust today - it's still a bit quiet, but I honestly think it now sounds like a "stock" S4 (4.2).

It opened up for sure. I had my music blaring, and wasn't watching the tach (6-speed) and finally let off the clutch and it jolted my head back - keep in mind I've had the car for 2 days (came off a 500+ HP car - so I know speed - HP/TQ), but was surprised this Audi did that - I'm happy.

I may do an "X" pipe in a week or so, that will help a little more. Only other thing I may do is a CAI, as that's probably all that's left for the 3.0. Other than a short shifter, car is basically done.

Muffler shop used "turbo" mufflers - more quiet than the youtube videos I mentioned earlier, but has a "lower" sound too, so it sounds beefier - which I like coming off a 5.7L engine.

I could have gotten a 1.8 or 2.0, but chose the 3.0 - hope that makes you feel better... I have nothing against the turbo, but there's "generally" no replacement for displacement. With the right mods, you are just as powerful as a chip-only turbo'd audi. chip + injectors is a different story...

Best,

Quad

Cams will be absolutely pointless in such a weak engine. You havent increased your displacement or your powerband which is when cams come in use. You can research Cat cams since they have a very good reputation but honestly I don't even they would manufacture them for the 3.0. It's just useless...

fyi, welcome to forums, don't be so sensitive when people flame you. Do REAL research first if you don't wanna come off ignorant. Besides, we only post here for sharing knowledge and constructive criticism so learn from posts, don't get hurt e-feelings

The supercharger sounds whiney to me, although it does add quite the boost of hp & tq,
I can't see me putting it on my car
