'P R N D' lights flashing - codes appear & reverse fails

Same problem here, and TCM didn't help
We purchased a used 2003 A4 Cabriolet 3.0 V6 CVT (VIN: WAUAT48H43K007***) almost two years ago for a really great price, knowing that it was in need of "transmission work".
In Automatic mode, the car shifts from 1st gear immediately to 4th gear (as observed when switching over to manual-shift). But when driving in manual-shift mode, the car shifts smoothly through all 6 gears. So, we've been driving it in manual-shift mode exclusively all this time. The car now has 150K miles.
However about a month ago, we occasionally started to get the flashing "PRND" or "123456" "limp mode", and when in this mode, the car will not engage into reverse. Seems quite random: doesn't matter if it has sat for a while, or after long continuous driving. Also, manual-shifting from 1 through 6 still works fine in this mode. So we were told to replace the transmission control module (TCM) and have the ECM flashed to the new TCM. That just cost over $2,000 and driving away from the shop the car went into "limp mode" again, and is still randomly loosing reverse. So that was a waste.
Someone has suggested the tranmission linkage to the shifter. I've heard there are several TSB on the CVT. Any thoughts?

Broken TCU or Inhibitor Switch?
I have a 2001 A4 2.0L automatic (CVT I assume) - Non Cuatro, Non Turbo.
I've been reading this thread concerning the flashing PRND indicators and loss of Reverse when it's in limp mode (these are the faults that I am experiencing). I was fairly convinced that I needed to replace my TCU after reading all of the posts. However, I took the car into my repair shop who did a diagnostic scan and came up with the fault P-0706, which equates to the Inhibitor Switch.
After searching the forums for P-0706, I read posts that indicated that the Inhibitor Switch could also be the culprit with the transmission trouble.
Can anyone here differentiate between the two faults (TCU vs Inhibitor Switch) and advise as to how to determine which part is actually at fault?
I'm also confused as to where the TCU is actually located in my model. Some diagrams show it to be integrated into the rear of the transmission housing, others show it under the bonnet, left hand side near the battery (when you are looking at the car from the front).
Any help with these questions would be much appreciated.

Cvt diagnosis help!
I have an 02 audi a4 with the cvt transmission it will not start in park unless I push forward on the shifter. When a gear is selected every other gear but the one selected illuminates and stays red I have read many forums and do not understand why my Trans does not have reverse or forward. I fix and rebuild vehicles Trans motors etc but do not know where to start with this car. When I do put it in gear sometimes it goes into limp mode and won't throttle up and sometimes it will rev like I'm in neutral I have checked the shift linkage adjustment on the cable of the shifter to no avail I'm sure it is in the correct position what advice would you give to someone with these specific issues?

I have a 2004 1.8t with about 40k miles. Same issues as stated above. What exactly is this issue? I can't quite figure out what the TCM is or does. In addition, I have a dull "hummm" or "whirl" sound on the right side of the car. The noise gets quieter as I sit idle, but gets a bit louder as I begin moving. I am afraid I have 2 problems....the TCM and a fuel pump issue. Could this all be related? Suggestions???

Audi Recall
If you contact Audi and tell them about the issue and let them know that after looking up the issue online you saw that it was a very common issue they will notate it and if they hear enough people calling it in they will make a recall and fix the issue.
