I used Castrol Syntec 5W40, Castrol Syntec oW30 (Made in Germany on the back label), Lubro-Moly 5W40 (purple jug) and I am now with Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W40.

My preference so far:
1. Rotella ($20 jug at Walmart)
2. Lubro-Moly
3. German Castrol

Wasn't happy with Syntec 5W40, crazy lifter tick.

I want to try Redline 5W40 this summer, not sure yet. Once I explore most of the good ones, I will stick to it.

On a related note, how often do you guys change your oil? I find it hard to believe the 10,000 mile interval in the owner's manual is realistic, but maybe I'm just too cynical. My A4 has done almost 4K miles since I bought it, and because I didn't know from the records that were in the glovebox when the last change was, I got one about 2500 miles ago just for peace of mind. When should I be looking to do another one?
