upper control arms are done

Most likely 60% of that is what they are going to charge you for the parts and 40% will be the labor. You can always have them give you a break down of the charges that you would have to pay. If you just need to change the upper arms you might want to try finding a shop that can install them if you buy them yourself.

Just for rough estimate, if one of those control arms run, say, $100 and I figure I need all 4 of them replaced, that's $400 for the parts. So I don't understand how the dealer is getting at $1300, even if you include the labor.

If I wanted a regular repair shop to do this, would it be like a tire and break place?

Full aftermarket kits are around $500+, so OEM from the dealer is most likely going to be closer to $800. Then add in the book time for labor with the dealer charging you $150-$160 per hr.


You could find just about any shop, but I would stick to one that has experiance with the A4.
