I brought my car to a local shop to have my brakes checked out, due to a sudden spongy brake pedal. He did replace the front brakes and rotors, which were warped. And said therear needed to be replaced as well but he could not do them. I was told by the mechanic that I had to bring it to the dealer because the brakes can only be bled using a computer(I assume he ment a VAG) that he does not have. I've had my brakes done before a local shops and never had this problem. I'd rather not have to bring it the dealer, is this something ONLY the dealer can fix???

I had my Jetta's brakes bleed at the dealer and it didn't cost that much, wish I could remember how much.

 

I've bleed mine, and changed the fluid, and have done it both with a power bleeder and the old fashioned way with my son doing the pedal work.
