Default High beams wont stay on??

I just picked up a 2008 A4 used and it seems to have a couple of issues. Im trying to determine what the issue is with my high beams. If I pull back on the lever they turn on which is fine for passing someone but if push it foward to leave the high beams on nothing happens. Is this common? Is it a relay issue or is it the lever at the steering wheel? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I realize it has been a year since OP posted this but..

Just had my car inspected and it failed because the high beams are not staying on. They turn on momentarily by pulling the lever towards the driver but pushing the lever away does not turn them on at all. There is no dashboard indicator light that they are on or lights turning on when the lever is pushed away from the driver. Dashboard indicator and lights work in momentary mode.

Am I looking at a multi function switch replacement? Is this covered pretty well in the service manual? I can't find any DIY guides anywhere and now have to download or buy a service manual.

you have to remove the steering wheel to replace the switch. Airbag and clock spring. Be care not to break the tabs or the airbag connector on the clock spring or you will have troubles

Thanks, this seems like it will be a fair amount of work.

I was also told to check the status of my other lights. Something about the high beams not engaging in 'full time' mode if fog lights were on or something. I'll update here if that is the case if anyone here were to have the same problem in the future.

Found out my high beams can be switched on and stay on (push lever forward) if the lights are on the Auto setting and the lights turn themselves on automatically when they detect the darkness.

Would this mean my multifunction switch is bad or my light selector switch (off, auto, on, etc..) is bad? Or is there something else that can be wrong here?
