Default Quick Q on timing belt

Here's a quick question on timing belt change: is it necessary to remove the car's whole front section (service mode) to perform a timing belt change? Or is it possible to perform the change without putting the car in service mode?

Thanks

As far as I know, it has to be in full service mode. I'm sure it *could* be done (don't stick me to it, I've never done a tbelt myself; basing this statement by logic) but it would be far more of a pain to attempt it and probably take you twice as long as if you just took the extra time to put it in full service position since you have to make sure the belt is lined up EXACTLY on the right teeth of the cams; being off by even one tooth will screw you, and trying to line that up without being able to look at it properly will do nothing but make you crazy.

Thanks for your input. Exactly what I was thinking. I just needed reinforcement. Thanks!

i have no idea what you mean you say service position and full service position...

There is only service position and completely removing the entire lock carrier.

All you have to do is unbolt it and let it hang forward. It will give you about 6 inches of space. Which is enough to do the job
