Random Stalls
Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster.
Ive got one of the weirdest stalling "issues" (its not a problem...yet) that hopefully someone has some insight on.
Ive got a 2006 3.2L V6 A4 tiptronic quattro 102k miles.
About 4ish months ago I went to go pull out in to traffic, but I had stalled. It was one of the smoothest stalls ever. I dont know if the engine dropped while I was slowing down, stopped, or went to accelerate, All I know is i had no power. It started right up just like nothing happened. When it stalled, The engine was warm (not hot) and was only sitting off for 4-5 hours. Since the Audi dealership was right around the corner, I went there, and they couldn't find any codes, or tell me what happened.
Now, im not sure if this is related, but I never had an issue until 2-3 weeks later, when my battery fell flat. jumped it and got a new battery. no issues since.
now fast forward 4 moths later, as im leaving from my works parking lot, and I stall when stopping. Again, smooth stall, no fits at all. I cant tell you when it stalled. But again, she started right up with no hesitations, and ran like a champ. As a matter in fact after 10 minutes of stop and go, I was on the interstate with 4 people and some gear, ripping down I4, without a single problem. Ive since put 100 miles (in less than a day) without any problems
So for grins and giggles I went to autozone, they tested the started and alternator fine, but my new battery was starting to show signs of age... its already lost 20% of its capacity in 4 months! they wont replace it yet because it hasn’t "failed" in their eyes.
I dont think the battery has anything to do with the problem, as it cranks right up without any hesitation. But its odd that i'm starting to see both issues at the same time.
Both times the CEL and EPC (not even sure i have one, need to check) never came on. Both times it was 90+ degrees outside. no rain/water out either.
So, what would cause these very intermittent stalls? Ive searched every corner of the internet, and the closest things I could find is the camshaft sensor going bad, but those people have continuous problems. (ie cant let the engine drop below 800)
I’m threatening to pick up a vagcom cable Monday when I get paid to see if I can pull some codes that may not be throwing the CEL
