Do you have a boost gauge? If not, get one. It's a great diagnostic tool for a turbo car. Put in the gauge and see what you're boosting. If you boost only to 8-9psi, you're stock (or something is broken). If you're pulling 15psi or so, you're chipped or he installed a manual boost controller.

You could also open the ECU and see if you see a label in there on the chip from APR, Giac, etc.

Or ask a buddy with a 30v V6 A4 to run you. If he smokes you, you're stock. If you can basically stay with him, you're chipped.

You have your answer - yes it's chipped. Stock boost is less than 10, falling off to 5 near redline.
