Default suddenly won't start

I was doing some rather minor work on my B5 and now it won't start........it feels like the ignition is severly retarded. It will start and run for a second but almost like it was in 1st gear on a bike going 15 mph. I think it has to be something that is causing it to think it is super cold and needs to have full fuel and retard ignition; it has to be a computer set timing issue since when on the starter long enough it fires to what seems to be all cylinders buy my guess is only after a ton of fuel is pumped into the cylinders - it runs for a second, until the excess fuel is burned off and the normal deliver cannot keep up - something it telling the computer to go full retard on the timing.

Does anyone have any insights/service manuel or a Vag-Con (in the MKE area)?

I just put on new wires, checked the coils, and even swapped out ECU's with the same result.

Is it the G62 coolant temp sensor, O2 sensors. etc.....
