Disabling integrated radar detector
Hey everyone,
I'm new to Audis (long time admirer, first time owner) and this forum (read a lot of posts though before taking the plunge).
So I've just had my '06 S4 Avant delivered, and I have a pretty major problem. The guy I bought it from had an integrated radar detector installed (he's in FL where they're legal), but I'm in Quebec where they're seriously illegal (i.e. car impounded, loss of license, etc).
I spoke with the manufacturer of the system (Escort) and they told me that by removing the fuse it'll disable it, but I'd prefer to at least get rid of the interface as well. I've spent the better part of a week looking for the interface, and spoke with some auto electricians for some hints as to where to find it, but all to no avail.
Feeling somewhat defeated, I resigned myself to removing the fuse, at least for the time being. Did that, and the thing still appears to be on. Does anyone know if this is normal? I'm thinking that even with the fuses removed the dash buttons it uses are still powered up but the sensors aren't...
Last resort will be to simply snip the wires that go to the sensors.
Obviously any tips would be greatly appreciated.
