I have a few lines missing from the dash cluster as well... mostly from the section above the gear position... dont know what it is for actually.

 

I also share the same problem as those I've read. Way too many posts to read. I didn't see any that had a reasonable solution, but there may have been. I am an electronics hobbyist who is going to give it a shot and replace my display. There aren't very many choices on where to buy the display. Most of what I see are Chinese in origin. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a factory source to buy an original VDO display? Some claim to have a different design that has circuit traces that are not etched into the glass, and so, therefore is a better design? I'm still researching all I can before I buy something. There are tutorials on how to do the procedure. Sorry about blathering on...

My 1998 A4 Quattro is also plagued with the pixelation. I just figured it was because it is 12 years old.

 

97 A4 5 vertical lines out and another that comes and goes.
