*Petition Audi* Pixelation of the Drivers Display Problems? You have them, come here *MUST READ*
After trying all the quick fixes, (which failed), I finally replaced the LCD display. I bought it from an eBay seller in CA. About $114 including shipping. Seems to be about as reasonable as they come. They claim it's better than the original because it's made of glass. The original is made of glass! Now for the fun part. Having watched one of the tutorials on AudiForums.com, it's like it's shown. I bought a two speed soldering gun, ChipQuik® and mustered a little nerve. It's a tedious operation, and it requires patience and a steady hand. There are 52 connections, and they are very close together. All the preparation and attention to detail paid off. As you can see in the pics, the display looks wonderful. This is NOT a project for the inexperienced, but, if you feel confident, it can save you quite a bit of money. BTW, I feel the driver chip molded into the ribbon cable is the culprit. Squeezing the chip caused lines to appear/disappear. Make sure you observe all the static discharge precautions.

Mine failed 1 1/2 year ago. Got a used one off Ebay and now it has failed also.
Checked with Audi service they acknowledged the problem but have no solutions other than spending $700 + for a new one (which will probably also fail in a year or two). Disappointing!

Count me in, I have a 2002 A6, 3.0 L Quattro - - the dash display is unreadable especially when it's hot out. I do think this is a SAFETY issue, it alerts you if you have oil problems, brake problems, etc. This is supposed to be a luxury car, how can we all be having the same problem!!!!!!!!
Well, let me tell you that it is frusterating that the screen goes blank every so often. I've asked around from many sites, and asked my excellent mechanic.. And yet the only solution is to replace it .. Which is a $500-$600 fix. I've also heard that it could happen again with the new screen. No one has yet to give me a solid answer as to why audis' do this. So here is my suggestion and reason why. When I posted about this problem.. I had a 01 Audi A4 quattro that I loved dearly, but it drove me nuts that I spent soo much $$ on a beautiful car n the damn info screen hardly ever looked right or worked at all on my dash board. It was a sore sight to MY eye, but nobody else ever noticed it when the jumped in my car. During this time I completely forgot how smooth the vehicle ran, handled the road and any weather conditions like a champ, how comfortable the seats were, how beautiful the air conditioning and heat worked, and how completely safe the vechile really was. I don't have that audi anymore, but I wish I did and I remember everytime I drive a vehicle how much better in every way an audi was compared to what I'm driving now. I totaled my Audi last summer when I fell alseep at the wheel. I'm writing you this today bc I was driving a AUDI. The collision center that received my car told me I should thank god I was driving that car. I hit a parked van goin over 50 mph and if I had been in ANY other car besides a mercedes benz, I would have been crushed like a bug instantly. My cousin was in vehicle w me n walked away without ONE scratch on his face. I ended up with a shattered hip a insect size piece of. glass in my shoulder. Point of story is not what I did.. It is what saved my life.. Audi is what some call a "German Tank." And if you can ever fix or get over the screen issues and you treat it right, it will be the one of the best cars you will ever own period.
