Starter went out the other day and could still here the solenoid click. Took off the battery terminals and cleaned them and tried again, this time no click at all. Took the starter off and bench tested it and it was wasted so installed a new bosch starter. Hooked everything back up and still nothing when you turn the key, not even a click. The starter will crank if you jump the terminals. Have been messing with the relay and i am get juice from the ignition switch to the relay but the relay is failing to ground. It will also crank if you jump the coiled terminals in the starter relay via paper clip. It is a 5spd and the clutch switch is operational. So I believe maybe there is an immobilizer mode that i may have triggered when i had the battery disconnected? Any thoughts would be helpful. I have hit the lock unlock several times to disable security. Also noticed the fuel pump is not getting power either?????

 

If your car has an immobilizer you may need to reset it.

 

What is the correct way to do this? Is there a certain procedure?

 

Sorry, my 2000 A6 was not fitted with one (I think they started in 2001) so I don't have that info on hand...
