2005 S4 Cold Start Problem
I have a 2005 S4 6spd. Gradually over the last several months when I first try to start the car after its been sitting for a few hours nothing happens. I press the clutch and turn the key and nothing, the screen says "depress clutch blahblah to start". The clutch switch has been replaced 2 times in last 16 months from the dealer yet that has not resolved the issue. Help Please

Probably a starter. I had the same thing happen on my '06. To check, climb under the car, disconnect the solenoid wire (the small one, not the big ones) and check for 12VDC between that wire and a ground while a friend tried to start the car. If you have 12 volts there, you know everything is working up to the starter. If not, then trace it back from there.
Don't bother taking the start to auto zone or the like to be tested. I had two bad starters test just fine there.

I would think towards starter also, except that the controller is telling to push the clutch in, which is needed to engage starter. Does the panel display press clutch every time you start the car, even if the clutch is in and the car starts(warm weather)? If it does, then most likely starter. I don't have a manual transmission, so I don't know if this displays every time, whether the clutch is in or not.
My car doesn't start in cold either, but that's another matter ;-)

It then sounds like the clutch warning is just a reminder, like mine says depress brake to shift, no kidding.
I will say your starter is the issue. You can verify like the other post suggested by checking to see if voltage is making it to it, which I'm guessing that it is. I thought there is also a relay for the starter. If so, begin at that point.
