Default A6 remote issue

I just purchased an 03 A6 4.2. Never owned an Audi, sweet ride. Everything was great until the next day my remote stopped working, changed the battery, and still didn't work.
I have a coworker who worked for Audi and he taught me how to reprogram it. After searching this topic there appears to be many ways this is done depending on yr/mk/mdl.
I'm inserting key in door, turn to lock door and hold, then press the lock button, turn to unlock, hold, and press the unlock button,
then insert into ignition and turn forward so display comes on and back 5 times, then start ... Vualah, key is reprogrammed.
My propblem is that the switchblade key remote loses it's memory after I start the car and drive it a couple times. I've had to reprogram it 4-5 times already.
I really love this car but I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.
Does anyone know if it is an issue inside the cars computer or in the fob itself that causes this to happen?
My next step is going to an Audi dealer. I have no recourse where I purchased since it was bought 'as is'.
I hope someone can provide me with some insight.
Thanks

Greg
