Hi I'm new to the forum. I just bought a 98 a4 the previous owner said it had a rod knock. I pulled the oil pan and I don't see any wrong with my second cylinder connecting rod. Checked my oil pump and everything appears to be fine for 118k on it. I pulled my valve cover and checked for abnormalities and then checked the combustion chamber for contact with the valves and there is nothing. I know these motors have issues with bent rods and valves.I'm curious to know what other peoples stock cams look like so I can compare just for comfort sake. I'm just unsure of what to do. Any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

 

The only rod and valve issues these cars are known to have are when timing tensioners fail and mulch the valves, or if someone leans out too much and takes out the bottom end.

 

Thank you for your time. My cams are worn bad and mainly on just my second cylinder. So I picked up replacement cams and lifters. It is apparently impossible for any hardware store around here to comprehend the idea of a three square bit so I'm ordering one to pull my heads. Lets hope I don't need valves but it wouldn't hurt to do new rings and everything while I'm at it. Any thoughts on port and polishing aeb heads?
