Default audi 90 electrical problem

I have a 93 audi 90 cs 5 speed man. 2.8 fwd
I got the car 6 months ago with 182000 mile on it when i got the car the crusie control or the alarm havn't worked. I have checked all the fuses wiring and vacums. i can lock the doors from the out side with the key and they will all lock and the horn will honk but if i try to use the button on the key to lock or unlock it will not do any thing and i have also replaced the batterys in the remote if you look at the remote when you push the button it has a little red light that comes on.
if any one has any idea where i can start it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks tyler

I don't know anything bout cars but could the sensor for the remote located in the car need power or batteries or something?
