Audi A4 '97 1.8 Keeps stalling - help please!
Hi there, i have an Audi A4 1.8 5v which has always been ultra reliable until today - it starts, but will not hold its idle - as soon as i let it go below 1000rpm it dies straight away - i can only keep the engine running by keeping my foot on the accelerator - does anybody have any suggestions what may be causing this to happen? Your help is really appreciated
Cheers Dave - I know this will sound stupid but are most of the pipes around the top of the engine or would there maybe be some around the bottom?
Cheers

All over the place. You have some really big hoses that go from the turbo on the left side of the engine to the intercooler on the right front. Then to the throttle body. There are quite a few vacuum hoses that are behind and under the intake manifold. And a bunch more near the turbo. From the sounds of it you have a really big vacuum leak. You should hear a sucking type sound as the engine dies. Find the sucking sound and you have your leak. Also try unplugging the maf snesor. If it runs better you probably have a bad maf. You may also want to try cleaning your throttle body.
