Default Bad news... might have killed my car. newb needs help! please give input!!!

so just bought an a4 about a week ago.. 97 1.8t quattro 90xxx miles.

So i had the timing belt and water pump replaced and they also did a couple other belts along with changing the oil and oil filter. a couple days later, the oil light came on.

me being a dumbass, didnt think much of it, checked the oil and it looked fine, i just figured i would take it to a jiify lube in the next day or two when i got around to it.

so i wait a few days, and when i start her up a clicking noise occured from the engine bay area. didnt sound too serious and i didnt think much of and just figured i would take it to the jiffy after work, so after work i start her up again and the clicking is a bit louder and doesnt go away this time. as i accelerate more, it got louder. then i shift into second and it gets louder and a loud clanking and bunch of chaotic noises. i shut her off. start up again and the same terrible loud expensive clanking noise.

i am now thinking maybe i didnt have sufficient oil pressure.... i realize how much of a dumbass i am. please let me know what you would guess the diagnosis is and how much i am looking at.... thanks and prey for me and my baby.

im guessing the oil pump has failed hence the clicking which is the hydraulic lifters getting no oil

so you dont think it was anything serious internally? what happens when the lifters dont get enough oil?

say that was the case... i replace the oil pump... what else would have to be done? i am trying to get a feel for how much money i am going to have to throw at this.

I have an 2000 A4 before i got this one i had a Toyota Paseo. I had the same problem with the car and that pushed me to buy a new one. I took it in and i took the oil pan off. Because there was not enaph oil pressure the oil did not lubricate the pistons and new pistons had to be put in. Don`t drive it. You will mess it up more. Take it and pay the 95$ an hour for audi to look at it. Most likely you will need a new camshaft and new piston bearings, posable new pistons. I hope im wrong but good luck.

no, sorry. they did not change the oil pump, but just the standard filter swap with an oil change.

It sounds like a plugged up oil pickup due to sludge. Search for sludge and you should find a bunch of threads. Most likely the noise you hear is the camshaft chain tensioner making noise due to lack of lubrication.

Dam sorry to hear. As my post above i was pretty close with the results. Thats y is good to change your oil often. If you took it to a lube stop you should sue the place since they are the ones that cause this problem. Go to audi ask them for a fault report and y did this happened take yoru receipt from the lube stop and ask your lawyer you might have a new engine for free. Good luck.
