Default Clutch Problem

I have a 2006 A4 2.0T with 47k and the clutch is engauging pretty high and hard at times. After you are out of first gear you can shift somewhat normal but I am being told that is "the way it is". I have driven a manual transmission for almost 20 years and it doesn't seem normal. I just purchased the car and I am concerned.

It is not normal. The clutch on an Audi engages about like any other car. Generally when a hydraulic clutch is engaging high, it means the clutch is mechanically worn out. A hydraulic problem (i.e. air) will give you the opposite, a low engagment or no disengagment. Probably not what you wanted to hear, sorry.

A couple of weeks ago I was driving and my car's engine started to smoke and gave of a bad smell. I have left my car on the drive for 2 weeks and not touched it. I started the engine yesterday to just give the engine a run and decided to see if it fixed its self. Fortunately the car has been driving fine and have no problems with revs or gear change but the same burning smell is still happening. Is this a problem with the clutch? Do i need to buy a new clutch kit already?
