Default Creaking sound when going over bumps 2001 A4

What is the recommended replacement for rear struts on 2001 A4 quattro 2.8. If one needs to be replaced do I need to replace both rears or rears and fronts. I brought car into local shop to investigate creaking sound in rear passenger side wheel they claim rear strut is leaking car has 68,000 miles. they also recommended Monroe sense trac struts cost $158.00 ea. total cost with labor for both rear struts $450.00

yea you should replace in pairs.

i'd ask to see the leak. cause they do go bad, but usually closer to 100k. At your mileage creaking noises are usually caused from front upper control bushings.

As someone else suggested this past week or so in a different thread, if you're replacing struts, get either OEM or a known good aftermarket strut (Bilstein, Koni, etc). Stay away from Monroe and other generic, "for the masses" struts and get something proven in the Audi world.

Thumbs up

+1 on the Bilstein or Koni! Stay away from Monroe... Made for cheap Chevy trucks and other crappy made cars.
Always replace in pairs!
