Default CV joints

hey guys, have a question for you. How much can I expect to pay at the dealer to get my CV joints looked at and worked on. My car makes the clicking sound when turning left or right. Im not sure if its the inner or outer but I need the clicking to stop. How much should I expect to pay.

Default RE: CV joints

I stopped at my local Audi dealer, some 10 years ago, just to get a new boot on a CV. I was quoted 300 USD.

If you are making "the clicking noise", you probably need new outer joints.

You don't say what car you have, nor where you are located.

I just had one go bad, bought a pair of recons at Auto Supermarket, SW Penna, at 50 USD per, my mech charged me a 100 to install. YMMV.

Some do not like Recons. They are bad units with a reground inner and outer race, and larger *****. At 50 bucks apiece, I'd rather go that route than the 250 bucks I was quoted for just the outer joint, itself.

Do as you wish. I don't know your circumstance, whether you bought new, and want to cut upkeep, or a second owner who wants to maintain your own at the lowest tariff. I am of the latter.

Cheers,

George

I was quoted some $900 for two outer joints only and labor at the stealer. I contacted Marty at raxle.com and am ordering two complete new sets of axles right and left (shaft, innner and outer cv joints) for $175 a peice. You do the math.
