dip stick help

Default dip stick help

ok so i need some help...the tube that the dip stick slides into broke on my audi (2002 a4 quattro) how? well id rather not go into that lol... it seems like it might be an easy fix but im not sure...anyone know where i can get a one for a good price? how much am i looking at $$$? and any tips on how to fix it?

Its really not that hard to break it. It happens all the time. The plastic gets brittle when exposed to hot oil fumes. You should be able to get it at a dealer for around 10 dollars. Replacement is almost as simple as it looks. That is assuming you have a 1.8. The clips on the top need to be released and then it just pulls out. You have to pull really hard to get it out as it locks onto a metal pipe at the bottom. Sometimes it helps if you have a beefy pick or even a screwdriver that you can use to pry the base of the plastic away from the metal tube.
