Default Engine Over Heating Problem!!!

I have a 1996 Audi A4 Quattro 2.8. I am having over heatin problems where the enginer temperature gauge reads past the half way mark and over heats at times. I check the coolant levels and is fine and the heater seems to work which i believe signifies that the coolant is circulating. I also ran the car idle and the auxilarry radiator fan doesnt seem to turn off. Is there a coolant temperature sensore or a fan thermo switch that i can change. If so, where can i find it in the car, by the radiator? Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

new thermostat or coolant temp. sensor. probably a new thermostat...

DON'T drive your car if it overheats, you'll blow the head gasket and then your coolant will start leaking into the oil and you're screwed then...the engine will become full of sludge!
