Help me out with a transmission question please
hmm i'm not interested in that...i'm actually interested in a 6 speed ...if i wanted that i'd be looking at a viper forum. Believe me, the concept did cross my mind. I've got my power i just want the transmission. I want 6 forward gears and the nearest shape/design i can find to my 42Le is the ZF transmissions from Audi. That trail led me here. If chrystler made a manual transmission i'd probably look that up but they don't at least not a manual that even remotely fits to my car. It's front wheel drive but the engine is in longitudinally as in left bank over driver wheel and right bank over passenger. Thanks for the post tho any opinon or data is appreciated
If you want six speeds youll have to go to an awd transmission. It will still work but its longer and wider than the fwd trannys. As far as codes youll want a 01e which is the 6 speed from the s4's and a4's. If you really got the cash you can opt for the 0a3 tranny. Its the six speed found in the new s4's and rs4's. Just for a referance the new rs4 is a 450 hp 8000rpm race engine. Although thatll set you back around 7 grand.
thank you VERY much...those transmission codes will help me out greatly. Do you happen to know the average output on the s4 or a4? I seem to remember one of them having a 1.8T. Is that correct? I suppose what i'm asking is which of the two puts out the most power and does the aftermarket support their transmissions? Also, i'm seeing many 5speed auto triptronic transmission on Ebay and I'm wondering if they have similar power losses as my 42le. I'm loosing nearly 30% power to the wheels
Could anybody verify a loss of less with your Audi autos on the dyno versus what is claimed at the crank? Again. Much appreciated!!
When I search for A4 manual transmission i'm getting a lot of DVZ code transmissions..what are those? 5 speed i assume?

30 percent is about average for automatics. About ten is the ballpark for manuels. The 1.8 puts out 150 or 170 in longitudinal arangement. Those trannys have been know to handle 300hp reliably. The s4 with the v6 and the 1le puts out 250 hp stock but handles more than 500hp in modifyed form. The new s4 comes with a v8 putting out 340hp and is backed by the 0a3. The oa3 is the same trans used in the 450hp rs4.
OOO! good data. Thanks!!
I've yet to see 1le in any of my searching except for here. When i see the v6 Manual cars i see a lot of Dvz why the difference in the designation? OR am i finding something different/unfavorable?
ALSO! lol sorry:P What are some good companies for remanufacturing the v6's transmission with performance in mind.. it seems like if ound one on this forum a while back but i've forgotten the name now :S

The hardest part about identifying an audi trans is the fact they different number and letter combos stamped on the case on at least 4 or 5 places on pretty much all tranys. Havent really seen any info on manual trans upgrades as there arent many issues with longevity on modded cars. You may have seen info on an automatic as they are weak and prone to breakage even on lightly modded cars.
The 1le is know to withstand the 500hp your talking about. But thats in awd form. Cant really say how the internals would hold up if all the power went thru the tranfer shaft to the front diff. I think the best bet is to go with the lexus rearend you speak of and do an awd. Of course for that kind of money i have to ask why? With that cash you could buy a small block chevy twin turbo pushing almost 2000 hp and put it in anything that fits a small block chevy and run 6-7 second quarter miles.
