Default Sealant when installing oil pump?

Posted this in B6 forum and no response. Getting oil pump tomorrow, so posting here in hopes of a definitive answer.

I have a 2002 A4 Quattro 1.8T B6.

When installing the oil pump, should you use sealant where the pump makes contact with the block (the place where the oil is actually transferring from the top of the pump to the bottom of the block)? I'm getting conflicting advice on this.

I've already installed an aftermarket pump, and am getting LESS pressure than I did before (now 12 lbs at idle, before was 15 or 16). No sludge and replaced oil pickup tube. Didn't use sealant.

Now I don't know whather I got a bad pump, or whether I'm losing pressure from the space between the block and the pump. Anyway I have a new factory pump coming tomorrow.

I seem to distinctly remember a posting that said NOT to use sealant, but I have an Audi tech here who says he ALWAYS seals this. Directions make no mention of sealing between block and pump.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks
