Timing issues on 01 a6 2.7tt
ok my kid bought a 2001 a6 quato 2.7tt auto. Im a old school shade tree.
need some help please. this all started because it was leaking oil so bad. car ran fine,
put new belt and the works used crank plug and cam lock bar. changed cam seals and gaskets. put everything back together hard starting, rough idle.
what i have tried
checked all coils good
new plugs and boots
tried setting time several different times with the same outcome
1 is it posible to have crank out 180
2 crank lock when full installed crank timing mark did not line up
3 when i took old belt off pass cam was what looked like a tooth off
4 fixed alot of hard hoses on back of motor
5 i timined just as book says.
6 getting p0300 code
you guys are my last hope please help i want this out of my shop!!!!!

Did you give the engine two hand revolutions with the belt tensioned to be sure it came back to the same timing marks, before reassembling it? It sounds to me like it's out if time. The marks should line up. If you used the locking tools and indexed cylinder #3 (rear passenger cylinder) at TDC on the compression stroke (which would enable the locking bar to bolt up - sounds like you did), then it's possible that when the tensioner pin was pulled and the belt was tensioned, it pulled it off a tooth on one cam (happens a lot). I think it needs to be torn back down to recheck and reset the belt to the marks.
yes i did 10 revs before i even pulled pin. car will start, getting a mutiple misfire code p0300. i got everything lined back up and cyl3 is at tdc crank mark is dead on. Question the crank turn 2 rev to the 1 cam rev right. so when the marks on the crank are together its on compression stroke? im going to a compression test on all 6 cyl, i just cant see that i would have bent any valves. it wouldn't run if i did would it?'
thank you for the help i was begining to think that no one was going too.
