Default New member needs turbo oil leak advise

Hello, We have owned a 2002 Allroad for 8 years, car has 79,000 easy miles. Recently developed a small oil leak brought it in they replaced valve cover gaskets and a small access window gasket on both sides brought car home and car started to leak even more. Oil is leaking on exhaust and burning.
Brought car back they are telling me that the one of the turbos are leaking. Can this be, and is car worth fixing they are telling me at least 17 hours of labor plus 1,300 for a turbo. Would appreciate advise.

it is probably one of the oil lines to the turbo that is leaking. I "think" it is possible to replace just the oil line without having to pull the engine, but I'm not positive. Sounds like the shop is being extra cautious and/or suspect the turbo may be close to failure and wants to do the job "properly". If they are going to replace one turbo, they may as well replace them both and upgrade to K04 while you are at it. Yes, it is about $5-$7K to do the turbos because the engine needs to be removed from the car to get at them.

I suppose to answer your question "is it worth it?" is something you are going to have to determine for yourself. Seems like your car has low miles for its age, after 8 years it is probably paid for. so your options seem pretty open.

good luck
