Default Thinking of buying

Hello
I have my eye on a 2005 audi a8 L with 89,000 on it. The guy will take $8000 for it. Ive done alot of research and this vehicle has what I require and is in my price range. I would be the second owner and he has maintenance records however he told me the timing belt has not been changed yet but there is no problem right now. Now I know it is a necessity to change it and I'm aware of the varying cost. He also has another set of wheels and tires that are brand new for it for winter. So I guess my question is if it checks out on the test drive and everything else seems to be in order, I would be a fool not to get it right? I usually do not question myself or others this much but I would be a first time Audi owner ,actually this would be the first time I've ever owned a foreign automobile.
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
