Question B5 S4 Brake Upgrade Advice

I am unemployed but need new brakes. I plan to do front and rear at the same time. I need to do the replacement but want to get the best value for the money. (i can't afford big brakes now so please do not suggest them). My Sensors show that I need new brakes.

Should I just get mintex or hawk pads and oem/oem quality rotors? Pilenga?

Budget wise the ECS slotted/cross drilled are not too much more than actual OEM. (slotted are out of stock). Are these worth it? I do a lot of mountain driving.

DBA look fantastic but are a bit expensive for me right now. Abour$475 for rotors shipped. Street, slotted.

I have searched over the forums many times and am more confused now than I was before.

I would like to see improved performance without the big brake cost.

I have the ecs zimmerman cross drilled and slitted rotors both front and back with hawk pads they work great for me, and it doesnt break the bank.

I have DBA slotted rotors and mintex red-box pads in the front, and stock slotted rotors in the back with the same mintex pads. Its good stuff but dont be expecting a huge difference. Youll just get a little more bite from the pads.

I would reccomend an aftermarket slotted rotor opposed to stock. It helps break the layer of hot gas between the pads and disc, get water off the disc, and clean debris off of pads. ECS would be a safe buy, personally i dont like holes drilled in my rotors, but some people do.

Most improved braking performance will come from good tires. Braking is still limited by grip!

$.02 - only BBK worth the money is the Stasis/Alcon setup.

There's a machine shop in CA that makes some very affordable rotors, they're a perfect fit, DOT approved, and have been in the business for quite some time. Search for brakelabs, I think they do a fair amount of business on ebay. I haven't used their rotors, but I spoke with them a while back and they seemed to have some good, legitimate products.

http://www.88rotors.com/

i went here and got axxis pbr ultimate pads for 120 for all corners. they are alright performance pads just bed them well. slotted rotors from zimmerman are also a good buy when you're on a budget.if you can try and get stainless steel brake lines as well. They're inexpensive and improve your stopping quite a bit. I went with goodridge lines from ecs. If you can you should just resurface the rotors and get better performance pads and lines.
