Dissapointed
yep. but make sure it's diagnosed correctly, because the rear main is commonly mistaken for the upper oil pan or cam seal. Do some searches, either here or AZ, and pleanty threads will pop up...
good luck!
good luck!
It just sounds like the car wasn't maintained or inspected frequently. I bought mine for 11,500 last March and I have had all of the problems you describe except for suspension. I replaced the rear diffy seals for a few dollars, but this isn't a simple job. The cam tensioners and timing belt are typical and happen to everyone. You probably have a leaky aux water pump, cracking coolant reservoir, etc. There are a lot of things that go wrong when you place a biturbo engine in a tiny compartment and put all that torque to the wheels. I love my car when it's working well. When you feel down, go test drive something else and you'll realize why you have this car.
Just dropped $1,300 on mine for rotors and pads all around plus new driver's side CV Joint, oil change and a look at the Washer Fluid Resevoir which is leaking. Dropped around the same amount less than a year ago for the timing belt job plus extras. I'm not complaining though the car has 103k miles and runs great. On top of that I paid less than 12k for what was over 50k new. As long as it keeps running reliably and comfirtably than I don't mind giving it a little TLC money.
Having an Audi S4 is kinda like having a daughter. You spend a lot of money the day you bring her home, she's beautiful in a non-sexual sort of way, you have to work hard to keep guys from touching her,you shower her with gifts, if you drive her right she'll stay off the pole (telephone pole) and everyfew months she asks for a LOT of money. I just wish teenage girls came with check engine lights...

I hate to tell you, but around 70k all that stuff is NORMAL!
The cam seals you need to take the TB off, so you might as well replace it. The job is usually around $1g with parts, then expect another $600 for the oil leaks.
The TRE's are known to go out around 40-70kmi, are about $160 in parts & 2hrs labor, then a wheel alignment, @ 70k, you should be getting one anyway.
Same goes for the CV, when I did my TB job, I noticed my passenger side CV was leaking, it's $20 in parts & 2hrs labor.
To me $3800 for a shop to take care of everything is no bad! But if you want to DIY it's like $1000 in parts.

Well, i appreciate all of your input. It is exactly what I was expecting to hear which makes me feel pretty good quite frankly.. hahaha. zq8gmc the targa has 70,000 miles on it, last of the air cooled engines and man does it handle well. I do recognize that the bimmer is a year old, but it gets the snot kicked out of it.
2ks4, was it difficult to mod your front bumper? Also guys(and maybe a few gals), anybody have any serious, full out suspension mods? How much did they run you?

I also have a 993, but with under 40k on her, I am seriously thinking about selling the S4 & picking up a 964 for a DD, it will be more reliable & more fun!
I dumped more money into my S4 the first year I owned it, then I paid for it.
The front bumper was not hard at all, there is a thread all about it. I had a body shop reshoot the front bumper that was about $750, & the mesh was about $225 & then another $50 in glue, bondo, & sandpaper.
